While reading the books again in anticipation of the new Disney™ movie, author Chris Rodin wanted to share these classic stories with his young boys, who are already fans of action/adventure fiction from authors ranging from J.R.R. Tokein to Rick Riordin. As he read on with this thought in mind, Chris realized that to many people, and especially children, Edgar Rice Bourroughs' text may be less accessible than more modern fiction. Though his narrative remains vivid and engaging to the seasoned reader, language has changed in the past century, and to many people the vintage writing may actually hinder their sense of immersion in the adventure.
Chris Rodin wondered if it might be possible to revise the texts of these beloved classic works so that modern readers could experience them with the easy escapism that "pulp fiction" was meant to be enjoyed when it was first written, without fealing like a dreary classroom reading of Moby Dick. Thus was born the Gutenberg Revival Project, through which classic texts will be restored to modern relevance without loss of fidelity to the original author's sensibilities or excessive paraphrasing or abridgement.
In a nutshell, the Revived and Modernized versions of the John Carter of Mars series aim to give you and your children the same relevant and engrossing experience that a child would have enjoyed back in 1914 reading a pulp fiction rag under his covers with a flashlight.
